The Journal of the Iranian Society for Musicology is a platform for publishing outstanding research on the music of Iran, as well as studies on music and Iran more broadly, in both Persian and English. The journal welcomes submissions in the following areas: musical analysis, historical musicology, interdisciplinary studies (including the relationship of music to politics, gender, and nature), as well as popular and vernacular music.
The main sections of the journal are:
- Research Articles
- Book Reviews
- Media Reviews
Each issue may also include roundtables, interviews, and essays. Given the journal’s online format, it is also possible to publish videos, audio files and lecture recitals, as well as conference presentations.
Articles are published online on a rolling basis as soon as they are ready. At the end of each year, the issue is closed and all articles published during that year are compiled into a single volume and issued in print. Please note that video- and audio-based submissions are excluded from full print publication; only their abstracts will appear in the print edition.
All submissions, following the editor-in-chief’s rigorous screening, are sent for double-blind peer review.
